Budget papers is a Current Series of Budget Papers - Australia (Commonwealth)

Commonwealth budget papers have been published since 1901. There have usually been subseries or related papers as well as the Budget Speech. These have included the Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure, and the Appropriation Bills. By 1967, eight statements were issued with the budget itself. From 1974/75, the Budget Papers were numbered, with up to 13 papers issued each year.

From 1987/88, a distinction was made between Budget Papers and Budget Related Papers. In 2001, the Budget Papers included the Budget Speech, Budget Statements, and Commonwealth Financial Relations with other levels of government. The Budget Related Papers have covered such matters as Government securities, national income and expenditure, overseas aid, social justice, and a women's budget statement.

Portfolio Program Estimates (now known as Portfolio Budget Statements), showing details of Budget initiatives and significant changes in appropriations, were included in the Budget Papers from 1985/86. They were published as 18 volumes of Budget Related Papers in 1987/88, and continue to be issued as a set of separate volumes.

The Budget Papers (but not the volumes of Portfolio Budget Statements) are also published as part of the Parliamentary Papers series.
