Alex Hood, folklorist, musician, entertainer and writer recalls his early family background; writing his first book at 8 years of age and later radio plays which were broadcast over the school public address system; his promising career as a young cricketer and the well known cricketing identities he became acquainted with; the reasons why he eventually gave up cricket; his trade as an electrician; how early in life he determined what his political beliefs were and how this interest led to his association with some well known names in Australian society.
Alex Hood has contributed to the development of Australian folk literature, theatre and music. He recalls his involvement in the following: Reedy River (theatre production); The Bushwhackers (original musical group); The Rambleers (musical group); other ensembles such as Dawe, Hood and Henderson, The Rambling Boys, The Prodigal Sons, performances for schools for a number of years. Hood speaks about the Sydney folk scene in the 1950s-1970s; life as a solo performer; his work as a folklorist; the Australian Folk Theatre.
