The collection includes personal documents such as invitations, Ryland's R.A.A.F. discharge papers, newspaper clippings, pilot's licences and flying log books; a folder of orders and diary notes kept by Ryland at the time of the Japanese surrender in 1945 including instructions for the surrender of Japanese forces in Dutch Borneo in September 1945; a volume of typescript extracts from R.A.A.F. and Allied Air Force Intelligence Summaries from 1941 to 1945; R.A.A.F. World War II and civil aviation photographs as well as early school photographs of Ryland and momentos of visits to the United States in 1943 and 1972; reports and correspondence relating to Ryland's work with T.A.A. (1949-1969).

General Manager Trans Australia Airlines, 1955-1973; Assistant General Manager, T.A.A. 1946-1953; Group Captain in the R.A.A.F., 1939-1946; in 1943 he was a member of a 5 man mission sent by the Federal Government to Britain and the United States to negotiate more aircraft and equipment for the R.A.A.F.
