MS 5789 comprises files of the Canberra architectural firms with which Moir was involved. These files contain correspondence, architect's briefs, specifications, contracts, financial statements and building plans. They relate to the erection of embassies, private houses, city office blocks such as the MLC building, alterations to offices and banks, government buildings and designs for parks and gardens. The firms concerned are Moir and Sutherland, Moir, Ward and Slater and Moir and Slater. There is also a large quantity of rolled architectural plans.

Architect. Malcolm Johnson Moir was born and educated in Sydney and came to Canberra in 1927. While employed with the Federal Capital Commission he worked on the Institute of Anatomy and several years later he built the Civic Theatre. He designed or was associated with the building of a number of embassies and he designed hundreds of private houses in Canberra. As well as being a member of the ACT Advisory Council he was president of the Canberra Chamber of Commerce and helped begin the ACT Chapter of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.
