The papers comprise notebooks, printed material and correspondence from the seminary years; photographs; cuttings, photocopies, notes and drafts of Parer's books Dreamer by day and Prophets and losses in the priesthood, and Samuel Angus; and correspondence with priests, friends, family, academics, and missionaries, which includes letters from Rev. Tony Peterson, Rev. Val Noon, Rev. Roger Pryke, Rev. David Pope and Archbishop Ronald Knox. Other papers concern the 1st Ecumenical Mission, Melbourne, 1964; the controversy surrounding the A.B.C. Television program "This tiny ship in space," and the associations of priests and ex-priests in Australia.

Ex-cleric, journalist, writer, publisher. Ordained in 1959, worked in Melbourne parishes, studied in Rome, granted a dispensation in ca. 1968, worked on A.B.C. T.V. religious programs, wrote several works on the priesthood and founded the publishing firm of Alella Books.
