-
The Arachnida Section of the British Museum (Natural History) Department of Zoology was formally set up in 1913 when the former Invertebrate Section was split up. However correspondence in this class dates from 1904, just before the appointment of Arthur Stanley Hirst, who succeeded R.I. Pocock. Hirst was followed by Susan Finegan (1927-1936) and Richard James Whittick (1936-1940). The section was renamed Arachnida and Myriapoda Section in 1932.
