Folkloric recording. Hodshon Cay, retired ranger, recites and comments on his poems and talks about his life
Hod Cay, born in Queensland, 1925 recalls his parents pioneering background; his father's musical talents as a singer; childhood memories during the Depression; jackerooing at the age of 17 years (1942) in Queensland's virgin brigalow country; enlisting in the Australian Infantry Forces (AIF) at 18 years (1943) and his active service experiences; his discharge from the Army in 1946; after the war jackerooing again near the Darling Downs (Qld.); moving to Longreach (Qld.)for 6 years; his job as an overseer at Portland Downs (Qld) & Tamworth (N.S.W.); sheep stations and the wool industry in Queensland; his job as ranger at Coonabarabran (N.S.W.) with the Pastoral Protection Board; stock routes and the 1965 Australia wide drought; changes in the rural industry over the decades.
