Folkloric recording. Kenneth Pellow and Lurline (Peg) Pellow, farmers discuss living in a rural community.
Ken recalls childhood memories of his father's work as a share farmer, good horseman, shearer near Cootamundra, N.S.W. and when he started a sawwmill near Weetaliba. He recalls the importance of the timber industry of the 1930s and 1940s for the Coolah area with numerous little mills cutting pit props and cypress pine for the local market as well as for Sydney during the war; operations of the local mill; his experiences as a shearer and truck driver. Peg speaks about country life in small rural communities; the loss of services such as the railway, etc and the effect it has on the survival of country towns; the need to reintroduce cottage industries as a means to supporting the communities.

Ken Pellow was born at Cootamundra, N.S.W. in 1932. He left school before the Intermediate Certificate in Coolah, N.S.W. and started work at the local timber mill before moving to Sydney. Ken joined the airforce in 1950 for 5 years having been trained as an engine fitter. He returned to the saw mill when his father became ill. After his accident at the mill when he lost a hand he changed his occupation to being a truck driver at Auburn, N.S.W. for 14 years gaining a promotion to the position of Sales Manager. Peg Pellow was born at Coolah, N.S.W. in 1933. She talks about her family background on the land, share farming with her brother and eventually moving back to Coolah in 1982.
