Joanne tells the story of her mother Judy, one of the Wotjobaluk people, who was removed at the age of 11. Judy was placed at Ballarat Orphanage, Vic. for nearly twelve months and then was transferred to Lara Girls' Home at Geelong. Judy then spent some time with a foster family in Geelong before being transferred to Winlaton Girls' Home in Nunawading. Harrison outlines her mother's recollections of her treatment in these institutions, and speaks about the continuing effects of her mother's removal.
