MS 389 contains correspondence, research files, reports, minutes, press cuttings, theses, and drafts on various projects and topics. The collection includes A history of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, submitted for the degree of Master of Arts, University of Melbourne, 1954. There are also typescripts for Nation, including one on George Munster; correspondence with Humphrey McQueen, 1982; transcript of an interview with Tom Fitzgerald, including an index; and correspondence and a two-drawer card index for Nation, 1958-1990 (32 boxes, 1 fol. box).
The Acc98.147 instalment comprises research files on war and society, and files relating to Ken Inglis' books (61 boxes).
The Acc98.242 instalment comprises research material, correspondence, cuttings, photocopies, photographs, lectures and symposium papers. Topics include multiculturalism, immigration, Aborigines, Papua New Guinea, the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, Manning Clark and The courier-mail (15 boxes, 1 carton).
The Acc99.255 instalment comprises letters from John Barrett to Inglis (1 folder).

The Acc01.283 instalment comprises material gathered by Craig Wilcox when compiling Observing Australia 1959-1999, by Ken Inglis, edited and introduced by Craig Wilcox. Includes drafts, correspondence, cuttings, background material and notes (1 carton).

The Acc07.007 instalment consists mostly of material relating to the University of Papua New Guinea, 1960s-1990s, and to research and publications on the ABC, 1980s-2000s. There are also tributes and obituaries written by Inglis; a file of material relating to Inglis' position as chair of Australian studies at Harvard; material on the Friends of the ABC; lectures at the University of Hawaii on peopling of Australia; drafts of an unpublished book "Peoples of Australia"; and, drafts for an unpublished sequel to The colonists covering the period 1900-1914 (19 boxes).
The Acc08.017 instalment comprises a letter from Geoffrey Serle to Amirah and Ken Inglis, 22 June 1988 (1 folder).
The Acc08.172 instalment comprises the letter from W.E. White, Assistant General Manager, Australian Broadcasting Commission, to Inglis regarding the official history of the ABC, dated 28 June 1977 (1 folder).

Historian and academic. Kenneth Stanley (Ken) Inglis was an historian whose books include Hospital and community: a history of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (1958), The Stuart case (1961 and 2002), Churches and the working classes in Victorian England (1963), The Australian colonists: an exploration of social history, 1788-1870 (1974 and 1993), and Sacred places: war memorials in the Australian landscape (1998, 2005 and 2008). He edited the 12-volume bicentennial history Australians, a historical library (1987). Inglis also wrote two books on the ABC, This is the ABC: the Australian Broadcasting Commission, 1932-1983 (1983), and Whose ABC?: the Australian Broadcasting Corporation 1983-2006 (2006). His academic posts included senior lecturer, University of Adelaide, 1956-1960; vice-chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea, 1972-1975; professor of Australian studies at Harvard University, 1982; and, emeritus professor of history at the Australian National University.
