The collection comprises business and family papers. The bulk of the business papers document Cohen's career from the time of her appointment to the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission in 1975. Material includes several folders of Commission judgements, certificates of appointment, speeches, correspondence, photographs, educational records, newspaper clippings and family birth, death and marriage certificates.

Judith Cohen has had a distinguished career in Australian law. She practiced as a solicitor in both NSW and Victoria and in 1975 she was the first female appointed as a Commissioner of the Australian Conciliation and Arbitration Commission (later the Australian Industrial Relations Commission). In 1980 she was appointed as a Deputy President and remained in this position until her retirement from the Commission in 1991. In 1993 Cohen was awarded an AO for her services to industrial relations.
