The Orient Line passenger ship, the Orford, led the line of merchant ships at the ceremonial opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1932. Built by Vickers Amstrong at Barrow in 1928, the Orford was bombed and beached at Marseilles while evacuating troops from France in 1940. In 1947 the Orford was refloated and scrapped.
