MS 8000 comprises correspondence, subject files, lecture notes and articles, theses, conference papers, reports and other writings by Hotchkiss. The papers primarily relate to Hotchkiss's work as an academic with the University of New South Wales and include papers concerning his sabbaticals in Fiji and Sierra Leone. There are also files relating to adult education courses and other classes taught by Hotchkiss as well as material on transport issues in New South Wales, Broken Hill mines, and industrial relations.
The Acc GB 1987/3011 instalment consists of files relating to Hotchkiss's career in the New South Wales Department of Motor Transport, his later involvement in the Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales, trade union summer schools and Sydney University discussion groups, and his official visits to Sierra Leone and Fiji. The largest group of the papers relates to Hotchkiss's work as a lecturer at the University of New South Wales.
- Biography/History:

Economist and academic. William Ernest Hotchkiss was for many years a research officer in the NSW Department of Motor Transport and lectured at the Institute of Transport. In the 1960s he studied economics at Sydney University, graduating as a Master of Economics in 1967. He was a lecturer in the Department of Economics in the University of New South Wales 1968-1973 and senior lecturer in the Department of Industrial Relations in the same University 1973-1982. He was on the committee of the Industrial Relations Society of New South Wales. Hotchkiss's fields of expertise were transport economics, industrial relations, especially white collar unionism, and the economies of underdeveloped countries.
