- See The Holy City, 1949. "Entering through a low aperture, we find a small narthex opening on the wide nave with two rows of eleven columns on either side. Originally the vestibule was entered by three great doors, but these have all been walled up and only a very small opening pemits access-a precaution against assault in time of war and to prevent horsemen from entering the church".
