- See The Holy City, 1949. "The Wailing Wall is the most imposing relic of the western wall of the Herodian Temple enclosure. The tiers of stone date from the Second temple, but the greater portion, twenty tiers, is buried beneath accumulated debris. It is possible that the foundation may date from the First Temple. The Wailing Wall is one of the most holy of Jewish shrines, and here Jews assemble in large numbers to meditate over the history of their race, and to kiss the sacred stones and weep outside the precincts they may not enter. The "precincts", known as the Haram esh Sharif, are held by the Moslems".
- Hurley series: Palestine, World War II.
