Approximately 170 pieces comprising correspondence with the author, his agent, libel lawyers, a film producer and others, together with internal memoranda, readers' reports, promotional material, etc. (1956-1964). During this period Hutchinson published two novels by Braddon, "Gabriel comes to 24" and "Proud American boy". The files include 10 letters from Braddon (9 autograph), 2 of which complain at length about what the author saw as the publisher's lack of support of his work. In other letter Braddon urges a quick decision on acceptance of "Proud American boy". The readers' reports include one from F.V. Morley for "Proud American boy". Also present is Braddon's 2-page typescript blurb for this book as well as his revision of Hutchinson's own blurb for "Gabriel comes to 24".

Russell Braddon was born in Sydney and educated at the University of Sydney. He was imprisoned in Changi for four years during World War II, and since then has written a number of novels and biographies. He has lived in Britain since 1949.
