Bowen speaks of his early life, immigration from Canada, growing up in Australia, university life 1930-34, work experience becoming an articled clerk in 1938, joins the RAAF in WWII and goes to New Guinea, returns to legal practice in 1946, legal experiences, became President of the Bar Council in 1959, entered politics by standing for preselection for seat of Parramatta in 1964, life as a backbencher in Canberra, his duties as Attorney-General in 1966-1969, 1971 particularly the formulating of bills, how federal judges in Australia are appointed, his office as Minister for Education and Science for 1969-1971, his office as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1971-72, debates on "Voyager" enquiry, his view of Coombs as an economist, "Think Tank" established by McMahon, Asian immigration, political development in Asia esp. the two China policy, role of the United Nations, communism in Southeast Asia, Indonesia and the West Irian border dispute, trade issues, importance of the U.N., Japan, Britain, and the Common Market, significance of the ANZUS Treaty to Australia, French nuclear testing in the Pacific, implications of the Five Power Plan for S.E. Asia, sea law and seabed issues regarding Australia and Indonesia, treaty with Japan regarding supply of uranium, outcomes of the 1972 Election, reforms in the Equity Court, his office as the Chief Judge of the Federal Court.
