Synopsis of Content: The introduction reads 'During the 1970s and 1980s, Australia held a naval advantage over neighbouring Asia Pacific countries. Over this period, the Australian navy's comparative advantage has been steadily dropping. In order to maintain a balance of power, the Australian navy plans to acquire major new equipment. By 2005, the total force capabilities will possess six Adelaide guided missile frigates, eight ANZAC frigates, six Collins Class submarines, and nine to twelve patrol boats'.
