Norm Tuckwell was born at Arncliff, Sydney 1923. He recalls the hardships of his early years; the Depression years; hi schooling at Bexley, Sydney; the Depression years; why he enlisted in the Army in early 1940; life on a troop ship; the war in Europe; military campaigns in Greece and Tobruk; his experiences as a prisoner of war in 1941 for 4 years, firstly in Greece, then Germany and in Poland at the hands of the German military; different treatment prisoners of war from different nationalities received; German people's feelings towards Hitler; reception on arrival back in Australia; rationing still enforced after the war; taking on a trade after the war. Norm and Joyce speak about the emotional scars of the war; how Norm's POW experience affected family relationships and health; contact with other POWs and the positive effects of conselling in the later years; compensation for POWs.
