Contained in these papers is correspondence (1975-91) and manuscripts of Brooks' work, together with some early poetry, essay manuscripts, drafts, fragments and manuscripts of other writers. There are also notebooks and diaries (1977-95). Manuscripts held are the Book of Sei & others stories (1985), Sheep and the diva (1990), The necessary jungle: literature and excess (1990), The House of Balthus (1996) and Black sea (1997). Other manuscripts are for A.D. Hope, Selected poems, edited and introduced by David Brooks (1992), Security of allusion: essays in honour of A.D. Hope, edited by David Brooks (1992) and Suddenly evening: the selected poems of R.F. Brissenden, edited and introduced by David Brooks (1992). Correspondents include Robert and Cheryl Adamson, Silvana Gardner, Alan Gould, Paul Balnaves, R.F. Brissenden, J.P. Hardy, Rosemary Dobson, AD. Hope, Galway Kinnell, Susan Jeffery, Robert White, Eric Domville, Geoffrey Dutton, David King, Ruth Morse and Craig Powell.
- Biography/History:

Poet, author, reviewer, editor and academic, Brooks founded the Open Door Press, with Alan Gould and others, in the early 1970s. He was an overseas contributing editor to New poetry and Poetry Australia while at the University of Toronto completing his MA and Ph.D. He was a senior tutor in the Department of English, University of Western Australia, 1982-1985, lecturer in the Department of English at the Australian National University, 1986-1991, and lecturer, 1991-1992, and senior lecturer in Australian literature at the University of Sydney from 1992.
