Robinson talks about: Australia's inspiration for his poetry writing; his belief that Australia needs a national culture and literature; the problems in making a living while writing poetry; the Jindyworobak poets; the importance of form in a poem; fellow poets; the Aboriginal culture. TAPE 2. He describes the time he formed a publishing company; the influence of his early life on his poetry.

Born in Ireland he migrated to Australia at age 9 and after leaving Hurstville Technical School he worked in various bush jobs and as a ballet dancer. During WWII he lived with the Aborigines in the Northern Territory. He joined the nationalist literary group, the Jindyworobaks founded by Rex Ingamells in 1938 and intent on familiarising Australians with their unique environment. He became a prolific writer of verse drawing upon landscape, Aboriginal mythology and Altjeringa (the Dreaming) for imagery to inspire a clearer national identity. He published 8 titles of verse.
