Log of the first Southern Cross, 6 January 1855 to 24 May 1856, London-Southampton-New Zealand-Norfolk Island, kept by George Siddells, mate, mainly noting weather conditions, bearings and the activities of the crew.
- Biography/History:

Mate on the first Southern Cross under Captain George Sustine. The ship was bought from subscriptions raised in England by Bishop G.A. Selwyn of the Melanesian Mission. In 1855 it made its first voyage to New Zealand and sailed to Melanesia the next year. After four voyages the Southern Cross was wrecked north of Auckland in 1860.
