Sharman, a former State Librarian of Western Australia, talks about his family background, schooling at Deloraine State School, which was cut short by the contraction of poliomyelitis at the age of 9, Launceston High School and University of Tasmania; his career as a librarian and archivist; the various institutions in which he worked and the issues associated with his work in them; broader issues in librarianship and archives including changes in the profession, training and automation; his role as editor of "Archives and Manuscripts" and his involvement in professional associations.
