Pat Hawkins, born in Baradine, N.S.W. recalls her early years in the rural town; her family's musical background; that her father played the cornet for the Prince of Wales during a visit to Coonamble, N.S.W.; her father's work in the timber industry; her schooling; her work in the Forestry Commission, Baradine being the district office for the Pilliga Forest; Baradine community life , especially during the Depression years; dances & balls held in the local picture theatre; Frank Cant's Band; Debutante Balls, her mother training the girls; local bands; Harry Sloggett's band in Coonamble, N.S.W.; playing for local band The Checkmates (early 1960s); television being too expensive in the 1960s to affect the popularity of dance bands; singing with Frank Bourke Orchestra on local radio; her involvement with the RSL since WW2.
