Folkloric recording: REEL 2720/39/3. Conversation:- 1. Demonstrating a good example of the relationship between collector and informants, topics were mainly on the natural history of the area including stinging insects particularly the types, effects and cures, crayfish, yabbies and craybobs particularly the types and how to catch them, bowerbirds and how they collect for their nests, build their nests and their dancing, wattlebirds, brolgas, lyrebirds, dollarbirds, talks of mushrooms. 2. Song: My true love was a jockey (parody). 3. Song: The night was dark and stormy. 4. How parodies were used to identify dance tunes. 5. Song: There's a pretty spot on Nellie (parody on River Shannon). 6. Music: River Shannon (whistling - often played as a waltz). 7. Song: River Shannon. 8. How he sang as a young man, his repetoire included Paddy McGinty's goat and Who threw the overalls in Mrs. Murphy's chowder, other contemporary singers included Jack Wilson who sang Wild Colonial Boy and a parody called James Dillon, discusses other Irish songs. 9. Killarney (whistling). 10. Story of a fall from a horse, discusses horses generally, recalls his old BSA motorbike, how he made a violin from a kerosene case, recalls Mick McGarry.
