Polish born Gracius Broinowski arrived in Australia in 1857 and worked as an artist and teacher of painting specialising in birds and mammals. He lectured on art and exhibited at various shows held by the Royal Society of Art. He published his six volume work The Birds of Australia from 1887-1891.
