The papers comprise diaries, patrol reports, official and personal correspondence, biographical details, newspaper articles, an audio tape interview with Speer about health issues, health conference papers, health reports, mainly relating to malaria issues, photographs and maps of patrol trips.Speer had a long friendship with Sir Albert Maori Kiki and there are letters, papers and photographs relating to his life. There is also a bound photocopy of 'The search for the truth of the Montevideo Maru', Part 1, by Speers.

Public servant, medical assistant and Health Services administrator. From 1947 to 1971 Speer served in the Department of Public Health in the Australian Administration of Papua New Guinea.
