Essay entitled: "Narrative of the wreck of the brig Rapid'" and letter (dated 3rd Nov. 1975) from Bill Torrington to Nan Kivell. It appears (according to a Rowson descendant) that John Rawson of Stonyroyd, born 1774 had six sons, six daughters. One son, John Rawson, was the father of Major Samuel Rawson, but another son, Thomas Samuel, also had a son Samuel Rawson, born about six months before Major Samuel Rawson. This other Samuel, the author of MS 4279, is in Burke's Peerage as "Samuel Rawson of China." He set off from Sydney to China in the "Rapid", which was shipwrecked.
