Dame Peggy van Praagh, 1910-1990. Dancer with the Ballet Rambert from 1933 to 1938, Principal dancer of the London Ballet 1938-1940. Soloist with Sadler's Wells Ballet 1941-1946, Ballet Mistress and Asst. Director with the Sadler's Wells Ballet, 1946-1956. In 1960 she was invited to Australia as Artistic Director of the Borovansky Ballet. In 1962 became the founding Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet, holding the position until 1974, and temporarily returning in 1978-79.
