Barney Flood, recalls his early childhood in Peak Hill, N.S.W. and Goorianawa, N.S.W; his work as a sleeper cutter in the New South Wales forests. He speaks about the sleeper cutting industry; living and working conditions in the bush camps;cutters coming back to camp after a spree; cutting tallies, competition among the cutters; cutting techniques and tools of trade; entertainment in the camps; his father's singing and song compositions; country dances; cost of cutting equipment; women in the bush camps; rabbiting, another of his occupations; carrying two sleepers.
