One of the earliest separately published accounts of Cook's third Voyage. A biography of Cook which includes the visit to Hawaii and his death. Somewhat revised for this publication it appeared in the scientific and literary journal Göttingisches Magazin der Wissenschaften und Litteratur (Jahrgang 1, 1789, Stuck 2, pp. 243-296) under the title: Einige Lebensumstande von Capt. James Cook.
- Biography/History:

Lichtenberg was an Anglophile scholar and one of the finest scholars of his generation in Germany. He had visited England where he attracted the attention of George III, and developed a deep interest in English culture and affairs, writing on Cook and notably on Hogarth. He edited the journal Göttingisches Magazin der Wissenschaften und Litteratur with Georg Forster from 1780-1785.
