Folkloric recording. Jack Barnes plays on the accordion and talks. Barnes speaks of his life, driving horses, wheat growing and dairying; his father who played all the bush instruments; how his mother taught him to dance; the different dances that were held in the local area; how his father used a pocket knife on the bridge of a fiddle to make it sound like bagpipes; some local musicians; his own musical beginnings; how he joined the Finley Band in 1927; how he bought an accordion in 1947 in Mt. Gambier; how some musicians can play by ear; how young men would come courting his sister and bring a sheet of the latest music; his experience as Master of Ceremonies at dances and how to call the Waltz of Cotillions; he makes comments about different tunes.
