Arndt summarises his activities as an economist and discusses his interest and involvement in Indonesia. He then talks about his involvement with the Asian Development Bank; Indonesia's economy and his views on the Australian economy. Arndt then gives his views on protectionism, multiculturalism and republicanism. He then talks about his family background; childhood and schooling in Breslau and following his father to Oxford in 1933 and studying Modern Greats. Arndt then discusses his family's war experiences and presence of Nazism at school. He then talks about coming to Sydney in 1946 and his involvement with the establishment of the Fabian Society of N.S.W. and writing a pamphlet on bank nationalisation. In 1951 he came to Canberra to take up the Chair in Economics at Canberra University College. Arndt then describes the reception given to his Chifley Memorial Lecture.
He then talks about the Vietnam War; leaving the Labor Party; involvement with the publication, "World economic crisis : a Commonwealth perspective report" and his academic writings. Arndt then discusses his time as co-editor of "Quadrant" and the careers of his daughter, Bettina, and his two sons.
