Shirley Metcalf, born in 1926 in Sydney, NSW speaks about her family background being mostly English but one grandparent coming from India; suffering racism and taunts as children; her mother also suffered racism; her mother's tuberculosis; her father's remarriage after the death of her mother; leaving school at 14, working in factory; the Eureka Youth League; contracting tuberculosis and the time spent in a Sanatorium; Pam Loughlin's (her sister) upbringing; Brian Loughlin; the Communist Party; she talks in detail about Pam and Brian's married life; their moving to Melbourne, Vic. for a period before settling in Rozelle, NSW; their 5 children; purchasing a bush block at Heathcote; their commitment to social justice; trade unionism; the Bushwhackers; Pam and Brian's Loughlin's friendship with John Meredith.
