Bland Holt, born Joseph Thomas Holt, (24 March 1851 - 28 June 1942) was an actor, comedian, theatrical producer and entrepreneur. Holt was born at Norwich, England, and made his first appearance on the stage when he was six years old. He first came to Australia with his actor/manager father as a young boy, before returning to England and becoming a professional actor. He had experience in England, the United States and New Zealand, before establishing himself in Australia in 1876. For the next 30 years Holt continued to produce the principal melodramas of the period, and mostly at the Lyceum theatre in Sydney, and the Theatre Royal in Melbourne. His father, Clarance Holt (9 January 1826 - 27 September 1903), born Joseph Frederick Holt was an English actor-manager who also had a successful career on the stage and as a theatre manager in England, Australia and New Zealand (please refer to separate PROMPT file).
