Germaine Greer (born January 29, 1939) in Melbourne. She is an Australian academic, writer, and broadcaster, who is widely regarded as one of the most significant feminist voices of the 20th century. After education at the Star of the Sea Convent in Gardenvale, and then winning a Teacher's College scholarship, Germaine Greer enrolled at Melbourne University in 1956. She graduated with a BA honors from Melbourne University in 1958, an MA with 1st class honors from Sydney in 1963 and the following year she went to Cambridge University in England on a Commonwealth Scholarship. She received a PhD from Cambridge in 1968. A professor of English literature at the University of Warwick in England, and the author of several highly acclaimed books, Greer's ground-breaking The Female Eunuch became an international bestseller when it was published in 1970, turning Greer overnight into a household name, and bringing her both adulation and criticism. Her ideas have created controversy ever since.
