Marion Mahony Griffin was the second woman to graduate in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1894. She subsequently worked in the office of architect Frank Lloyd Wright with Walter Burley Griffin whom she married in 1911. In 1898 Mahony Griffin became the first woman in the world to be licensed to practise as an architect. An exceptionally talented draftswoman, she was responsible for the perspective drawings which accompanied Walter Burley Griffin's entry for the 1912 design competition for the new Australian capital.--Reference: National Capital Authority, Canberra.
