Alexander Chisholm (1890-1977) was prolific author of books on Australia's flora and fauna and edited a number of prominent newspapers and magazines. He was the editor-in-chief of the Australian Encyclopaedia in 1958, and the recipient of the inaugural Australian Natural History Medallion in 1939. He was the 1939-40 president of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union.
