Professor Lister Staveley-Smith is a Premier's Fellow at the University of Western Australia. He was appointed by the Western Australian government to ensure that the Square Kilometre Array, the largest radio telescope in the world will be built in Western Australia. Staveley-Smith is an international expert in the study of galaxies and the Magellanic Clouds. Also, he was the driving force for the building of the highly innovative Parkes 21 cm multibeam receiver which has made several significant contributions in astrophysics.
