A collection of 2 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about Mendies' boxing career, assembled by himself and completed by an unknown person. These cover the period 1917 to 1924 as he rose through the ranks with emphasis on his trip to Manilla in 1921 to fight Pancho Villa to whom he lost. Includes postcards of the ships on which he sailed to the various ports when he fought in Asia. Included are newspaper accounts of his fights, wins, losses, his boxing opponents, death, obituary and funeral.

George Mendies, boxer, Australian flyweight champion holding the title from 1917-1924, also known as the Mighty Midget. Born in Pyrmont, Sydney on 14 June 1899. He was 161.54 cm. tall, had a reach of 1.73 m. Out of a total of 57 fights he won 37 (23 ko's), lost 13 and drew 6. His last fight was May 3, 1924 when he fought Harry Gordon, was knocked out, rushed to hospital and died two days later.
