TasDance was established as the Tasmanian Dance Company in 1981 and was Australia's first dance-in-education ensemble. Initially the company worked largely with school groups but after a decade expanded its activities to include the wider community. Founding Director was Jenny Kinder (1981-1994), followed by Richard James Allen and Karen Pearlman (1995 - 1996) and Annie Greig (1997-).
