MS Acc08.101 comprises manuscript diaries and transcripts (hard copy and electronic) for Knowles' trips to: League of Nations First Assembly, 1920; Conference on the Limitation of Armaments, Washington, 1921; League of Nations Fifth Assembly, 1924; Imperial Conference and coronation, 1937; and to South Africa in 1946-1947 (2 boxes).
The Acc08.128 instalment consists of four albums of photographs taken by Knowles on overseas tours including: coronation and Imperial Conference, 1937; Disarmament Conference, Washington, D.C., 1921; France and Geneva for League of Nations, 1920 (2 boxes).
The Acc13.013 instalment comprises four large black and white photographs showing Knowles in a range of capacities, one as a member of the Australian delegation to the First Assembly of the League of Nations in 1920. Also included within the material are programmes of the state ceremonial in remembrance of Sir George Knowles (Pretoria), two issues of the Attorney-General's newsletter Inprint (Nov. 1987 and Jan. 1989) as well as a road map of the Union of South Africa from around 1948 (1 packet).
The Acc13.078 instalment comprises ten photographs documenting aspects of Canberra's early history, including the first Cabinet meeting, Yarralumla House and views from Camp Hill and Mt Ainslie, taken on 30 January 1924 (1 packet).

Solicitor-general and high commissioner. Sir George Shaw Knowles was adviser to the Australian delegates attending the League of Nations assemblies in 1920 and 1924 and the Imperial Conference in 1937, and secretary for Australia in the British Empire delegation to the Washington Conference on the Limitation of Armaments in 1921-1922. He succeeded Sir Robert Garran as solicitor-general in 1932. Knowles was appointed as first high commissioner to South Africa in 1946.
