MS Acc09.184 comprises 11 manuscript letters by Wilhelm Kirchner to Austrian amateur entomologist and mayor of Vienna Cajetan von Felder (1814-1894), all relating to the exchange of insects between von Felder and William Henry Miskin in Brisbane. The collection also includes typescript transcriptions of the letters (1 folder).
- Biography/History:

Wilhelm Kirchner first emigrated to Australia in 1839 but returned to Germany in 1848 to work as an immigration agent for the New South Wales government. He arranged the publication and distribution of a promotional booklet titled Australien und seine Vortheile für Auswanderer. In 1851 he returned to Sydney and was appointed Consul for Hamburg and Prussia. He owned a large number of farms and a candle factory on the Clarence River, and accumulated considerable wealth. Kirchner was married to Frances Murdoch Stirling, the stepdaughter of A.W. Scott (1800-1883). The Kirchners returned to Germany in the late 1860s.
