A promise of a land grant was made on 5 March 1830 to Gregory Blaxland, pastoralist and famous 1813 explorer of the Blue Mountains region. These 1,280 acres of land, west of Wollongong and near Mount Keira, were later bought by John Hubert Plunkett on 12 March (possibly April) 1837 for Đ1300. The land was called "Keelogue's" (or Keelogues) or "Gundarin" (or Gundarun). It has been suggested that the "former is obviously an Irish name and the latter a native name". J.H. Plunkett was Solicitor General of the Colony in 1832, and became Attorney General in 1833. Plunkett subsequently subdivided this land and had sold Keelogues Estate for Đ13,000 by 1840.
- Notes:
-
- Undated traced copy of an 1839 manuscript plan showing subdivided land at Keelogues Estate on Kelogues Brook [now named American Creek] in the Wollongong region. Note that this tracing features one particular land division coloured in pink & marked in pencil "1, Moore, 17-2-20" with the northwest side marked 11 chains, 25 links, and the southeast side marked 10 chains 15 links. The land in this map is located in the Wollongong suburb of Figtree and by the time of the original drawing the estate north of Kelogues Brook had been subdivided and sold to private owners. Note that O'Brien's Road (established in 1821) runs through this part of the Estate. The part of the Estate south of Kelogues Brook remained intact at that time.
- Originally issued under the same title as a manuscript circa. 1839 and held in the National Library of Australia's Map Reading Room at MAP RM 4229.
