Ian Brusasco talks about his family history and early political influences; his education; his choice of career path in pharmacy and the acquisition of pharmacy outlets; his interest in soccer; networking benefits of sport and entry into politics; 4KQ radio; the union movement role in Labor Party-owned 4KQ; the retirement of the Lord Mayor of Brisbane and impact; the federal intervention in the state Labor Party; the establishment of Labor Holdings as party's investment arm; serving as a Brisbane City Council Alderman for 14 years; the state government decision to scrap popular election of the Brisbane Lord Mayor for the 1973 council election and later reintroduction of citywide vote for Lord Mayor and importance of presidential-style and party politics; the importance of Greater Brisbane concept and single citywide government; changeover in Lord Mayors and their administration.
