- Inscriptions: "Pearl diver collecting shell from the beds of Torres Straits. Nth Australia. Pre-war the divers were mostly Japanese, they made dissents to 42 fathoms. The mortality from parlysis was high. Today the industry is in the hands of the Torres Straits Islanders. Depths are not made below 20 fathoms. Pearl shell is pelntiful, owing to the regeneration of the yearling beds during the war period when the diving operations were suspended. Great Barrier Reef. Frank Hurley"--In ink and pencil on verso; "From Rapho Guillumette Pictures..."--Stamp on verso.
