Poster promoting the original production of the musical written by Tim Robertson and Don Watson with John Romeril, and with music by Martin Armiger and George Dreyfus with David King, which opened at Melbourne's Princess Theatre on 16 January 1988, coinciding with the Australian Bicentenary. It was directed by John Bell with choreography by Mark Daly and musical direction by David King. The cast included Ivar Kants, Michele Fawdon, John McTernan, Jonathan Biggins, Greg Stone, Linda Nagle, Kate Turner, Helen Noonan, Tina Bursill, Jenny Vuletic, Bob Hornery, Carmen Tanti, Ross Williams, Terry Brady, Darryl Emmerson, Geoffrey Jenkins and Ingrid Silveus. The unsigned painted image on the poster depicts the can-can being performed by Manning Clark (centre) with a number of notables including Ned Kelly, Dame Nellie Melba (holding aloft a sprig of wattle), Captain Cook, Henry Lawson (also holding some wattle blossom), Lola Montez, Quong Tart (in a tartan kilt), John Macarthur (with sheep), Samuel Marsden, and Prime Ministers Billy Hughes and Robert Menzies (holding up a similarly dressed rotund koala). —Based on Wikipedia, viewed June 2018 and Josef Lebovic Collector’s List no. 193, 2018, entry 155.
