Kathleen Graham born 1946, speaks about her parents; her father's War service; parents being homeless (1944-1954); Colebrook UAM Home for Aboriginal children; her honours thesis, 'Checkmate: nowhere to move nor any space to go'; her mother living with Dr Charles Duguid; her siblings; being taken from mother at age 4 to Seaforth home; fighting against racism and discrimination in home; remaining at Seaforth until (1944); her father going to rehab; leaving home at age 15; having a baby; meeting her husband at Semaphore Palais; living at Woomera for eight years; leaving husband (1975); domestic violence; going to Adelaide with five children and a mattress; her working life, factory work until (1986); becoming an Aboriginal Education worker in high schools; working at Aboriginal Community College; going to university; receiving support from Aboriginal program at Adelaide University; starting her B.A. in (1997).
Graham talks about meeting her second husband (1977); her mother’s death (2000) and family problems; returning to Social Inquiry Department; a job offer as Policy Officer with TAFE; moving around for a year; both herself and daughter Jennifer’s illnesses, how both are in remission, making most of her life; being inspired by her daughter; her family in the last ten years; Mulligan Enquiry; watching Apology by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, at Elder Park in Adelaide with family; Brendan Nelson’s reply; South Australian State politics; her daughter Lynette; the value of archives; the need for a new way of thinking and jobs for young Indigenous people.
