This publication provides suggestions for organizing junior high/middle school instruction and staffing in order to motivate and challenge early adolescents to develop informed and responsible behavior. Most of the booklet consists of short sections that deal with the various curriculum areas typical of junior highs and middle schools. Each of these sections provides a brief overview of one curriculum area and includes subsections on instructional rationale, goals and objectives, instructional format, and evaluation, plus a short bibliography relevant to that curriculum area. In addition to the sections on different curriculum areas, there are also several short sections that focus on some of the characteristics of early adolescents, on organizing learning and instruction for junior high/middle school students, on staffing junior high/middle schools, and on an educational philosophy for junior high/middle schools. A selected general bibliography of publications dealing with junior high/middle schools is also included. (JG)
