North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University at Greensboro is described in this case report, one of a series in a study of developing colleges and universities funded in the Advance Program of Title III. Historically a black institution, A & T now provides diverse academic programs to an increasingly diverse student population. In 1974 the university received a five-year AIDP grant for $2 million to undertake 17 activities in the following areas: (1) faculty and administrative development; (2) academic development and career options; (3) student affairs; (4) planning, management, and evaluation (PME); and (5) management information system (MIS). This report reviews A & T's state-of-development, administrative structure, and management system. Also discussed is its management effectiveness, including the attention paid to management needs, implementation of a viable management system, effectiveness of resource use and planning, quality and effectiveness of constituent involvement, and renewal capacity. It is concluded that the university needs to establish a university-wide planning capacity and to develop a method of evaluating existing programs. (LBH)
